Extra filter for 46 gallon tank

I have a bio-wheel penguin 350 marineland filter on my 46 gallon tank and I am thinking of adding another for back up in case I ever have a restarting problem. Any suggestions? Mine now mounts on back and has 2 wheels.
Thanks

Re: Extra filter for 46 gallon tank

if you get a UG filter, you can buy a battery backup air pump to work if the power goes out. the H.O.T. magnum would be a good second filter too.

filter backup

Well last night was momentous, the refrigerator stopped cooling, then we had a bad power hit - electric off for only about 45 minutes THEN the motor for my Whisper failed. It was Saturday night and not much place to go for help. Sunday the stores are closed in my area. The unit has been running about 7 or eight years. I over sized the filter so that I get good water flow and when I went from a 30 gal tank to a 55 gal I didn't need a new filter.

I had planned to setup a second tank and bought some items but never used them. The extra filter came in handy.

I'm no expert but it seems to me the extra thing to have on hand is the motor. Much of the whisper filter units don't seem to be prone to breaking down, the non-moving parts. There is just the motor and the fly wheel.

One reason I wonder about bio-wheels, having no experience with them I read about water on the floor and constant clogging up. Just how much trouble are they really? Have you had to replace parts like the wheel or motor?

Whisper works fine and when the pads are too full of crap is the only time the water is not flowing as it should. This happens only when I have not done my house cleaning for the tank, it is my fault not the filter. It takes more than two weeks to get to that point. And ya, it happens about 2 or 3 times a year.
