Re: just the two of them
I kept a baby 1.5 inch parrot in a 10 gallon with a baby oscar the same size for about a month. I had to change a lot of water to keep the waste down because it build up in a 10 gallon.
Re: just the two of them
plecos also suck on other fish's slimecoat knocking off scales and causing damage by introducing infection. I will never keep another with my fish.
Re: Re: just the two of them
Many people don't realize it but pleco do have teeth.
Re: just the two of them
I have Two Blood Parrots in a 10 gallon tank, and the guy at petland said that will be fine for like 6 months then you will have to get a bigger tank, but for now it is good.
Re: Re: just the two of them
In the right size tank, Oscars grow about 1 inch a month till they reach 12 inches and Parrots grow about half an inch a month till they reach about 6-7 inches. If you plan to keep your 2 parrots in that tank then you have to do a 20% every 2-3 day, maybe more. Parrots create a lot of waste and thats what stunts their growth, not the tank size. In 6 moth months they should have grown at least 2-3 if you don't stunt them. The body will stop growing but the organs keep growing so it gets cramped and they die.
If you are in the US goto Walmart. You can buy 10, 20, 39, and 55 gallon kits from them for cheap. I suggest you get the 55 gallon kit, its only $175 and $100 for the stand.
Or Look on Craiglist, people have found good deals on there.
Re: Re: Re: just the two of them
mine dont seem to be growing that fast :(
Re: Re: just the two of them
please, both of u, get bigger tanks when u can. the rule is that 1 parrot needs 30 gallons to itself, and 10 gallons for every additional 1. u will start having problems with water quality and aggression otherwise.
just the two of them
Tank is tooo small. Need to upgrade soon. As the pleco gets older watch it as mine fought for the cave and got aggressive with my parrots and I had to find a new home. Mainly a problem when older and it will be active at night when the parrots wantto sleep and that is uncomfortable for them. You need at least a 30 gallon tank soon.
tank size....
yes im sorry but i have to agree with shaz, if there babie i think that a tank about 30to40gal is good to start out with but they doo growww very quickly, an would need to change the tank size....
10 gallon tank
Way to small for the pleco alone. You will need a new one as soon as you can get it. 10 gallon only good for a baby, hospital; tank or small fish like guppies.
tank size
afraid so ,if you are have Blood Parrots, I'm told that my 40 gallon tank is only just adequate for my two parrots and Ill need a bigger one in a few years!
