I bought a new parrot fish a few weeks ago. It was in a tank with some other cichlids at the pet store and when I showed the guy which fish I wanted he said, "You want that green severum?" and I said, "No, that 's a parrot fish." The guy stood there and argued with me over it. I 've seen severums before, and while sometimes they do ALMOST look like parrots a little bit, the main difference is that they don 't have that separated hump where the parrot-like beak is. So I bought the "green severum" and I put it in my tank with another older BP. It suspiciously started acting like a parrot fish, i.e.- hiding. It was completely gray with darker streaks when I bought it about 4 weeks ago, but I noticed that recently, much like baby parrots do, it 's color seems to be lightening up and it seems to be turning either white or yellow. I took a few pictures of it to see if anyone agreed with me:

Is this a parrot fish?

BP or Severum?
Yep-BP
blood parrot.
i work in a pet store that has a huge selection of fish, and that is no severum! the pet shop guy probably thought he would sound stupid if he admitted to being wrong.
Definitely a parrot.
Definitely a parrot. Severums have a different body shape than parrots.
