Ok so I have a 55 gallon tank that has been running for over two years, I decided to switch from tropical community fish to Cichlids. I bought 2 blood parrot cichlids and they are about 3 inches long. Also 3 gouramis and one plecostomos that is probably 6 to 7 inches long (but he doesnt move around much, he loves his corner and comes out only to eat...sucks on the walls a lot). I have in the tank a large log for "hiding spaces" and multiple plants. Do parrots like to hide or do they like to swim freely and have a lot of room? Also, what else do they eat besides flakes? Does anyone know how to tell gender as well? One of them is chubbier in the face and the other is thinner in the face and like to "kiss" and chase the other chubby one. Is that any sign of anything? Thanks!

2 is good.
2 is the limit I would say. And luvmyparrots is right about them needing a variety of food. I feed 14 different kinds of food. My schedule goes like this:
Sunday: Freeze dried brine shrimp, bottom feeder tablets, Cichlid Pellets
Monday: Freeze dried blood worms, shrimp pellets, cichlid crumbles
Tuesday: Flake food, sinking tropical pellets (they're favorite), another kind of cichlid pellet
Wednesday: Frozen brine shrimp, frozen bloodworms, occasionally frozen beefheart
Thursday: Freeze dried brine shrimp, bottom feeder tablets, Cichlid Pellets
Friday: Freeze dried blood worms, shrimp pellets, cichlid crumbles
Saturday: Flake food, sinking tropical pellets (they're favorite), another kind of cichlid pellet
That way fish at all levels of the tank with different appetites get theyre own food, as well as a variety, and the weekly treat of frozen food.
Yes they LOVE to have their
Yes they LOVE to have their own hiding spots, but they also need clear room for swimming.
I just gave mine thawed shelled peas for the 1st time and they went NUTS for them! Ive never seen them
eat something so fast! lol...I have heard that they need a variety of food...blood worms, pellets , flakes, peas....
the "kissing" is kinda fun to watch..mine do it every now and then, I think with mine anyway its a territory thing,
I have 4 and when my two orange ones start the lip locking then backing away then doing it again, my BIG yellow parrots will
come in and break up the fight, its cute....shes/he is the peace keeper...as for telling the gender of the fish I have no idea...wish I knew!
Haha thanks for the response!
Haha thanks for the response! Well good I'm happy that my tank has both swimming room and lots of hiding places :) There names are Bonnie and Clyde! I love them, they are precious little creatures...I'll have to try the peas I had no idea they can eat that sort of thing. So if I have a 55 gallon tank could I have more than 2 or is 2 enough?
