Help with care after Eggs are laid please

I have a pair of BP's that have previously successfully breed. However this is my first experience with the process. I need some information on what to do now in order to increase the survivability of these eggs. Also my Female is being very aggressive towards the male. Is this normal? Do I need to do anything for the parents to lessen the stress? (they have no tank mates)

Feed them lots of live foods

Feed them lots of live foods for a few weeks. Lower the tank temperature during this time to 77ºF. Then raise the temp to mid 80's to induce spawning. Give them a slate to spawn on, and remove the slate to a hatchery and raise the fry yourself. The hatchery should be bare bottom, have a nice sponge filter, RO water, and lots of java moss or hornwort for the fry to eat out of and hide in. Change some water daily. Just treat them as you would any CA cichlid. Feed the fry spirolina and baby brine shrimp. Stir the food into the water so it sinks. Advance to powdered flake and chopped bloodworms until they are old enough to surface feed, then move to flake and pelletized food. Feed very, very sparingly many times each day.
Add dithering fish for the parents to take aggression out on after the eggs are removed. They will have lots of angst and will hurt one another if you don't provide an outlet. Just fish to chase and possibly kill/eat.

Day 3

Thanks Breoncomaniac, your info helps alot.

Okay so day 3 visible, viable eggs. A few bad ones She seems to be removing them when they turn white . She is really irratated with the male so I covered his side of tank to make it dark then she can't see him and I placed a small mirror on her end of tank she is now keeping her eye on the fish in the mirror instead of him. I have another tank set up ready for fry. I have one question. What kind of fish should I get as dither fish? Also what size should they be?

Healthy fish of any suitable

Healthy fish of any suitable type. Large tetras work well. Fast fish like barbs are ideal.

re: have you utliized the tools

I have been researching continously on this subject yes . My pair have successfully breed as I stated above, but I wasn't the primary care taker so I was hoping to get some imput from an owner that has had their BP's successfully breed. There is alot of information out there saying they can not, yet not a lot on ones that can breed.

It would be awesome if they

It would be awesome if they are capable of breeding and having viable eggs. Good luck on your mission! Let us know what happens.

have you utliized the tools

have you utliized the tools to the left such at the topics or search this site? It will give you tons of breeding information. 99% of the time parrot males are sterile and unable to fertilize the eggs. Therefore you will have duds... Although your parent bp's will guard them with their lives, you will not get fry. research to see whats next... ;) welcome to the site
