red parrots

Please help!  Yesterday one of my red parrot fish died. I had five parrots in a 30 gallon tank. I usually clean the tank once every week
because it is overstocked and I add ammonia filter as well as carbon.

Three of the four remaining fish aren't eating and I noticed the last time I cleaned the tank that there is a fungus growing. At least that's what the store clerk said when I brought an example it looked like little fuzzy substances floating on the around the undigested food particles. The guy at the fish store told me not to clean the tank. However, I am afraid if I do nothing they all will die.  The smallest fish about three inches is turning white ...her head and staying at close to the surface. The rest are fighting with each other and one one is eating...I just don't know what to do . The PH is a high but it has always been high, the ammonia levels are normal.

Please help

six is low for ph not high. 6

six is low for ph not high. 6 is very low for parrots. to help raise it you can add a piece of saltwater base rock. not live rock just base rock. it will help your ph go up some also have you tried to add some salt. helps with gill function.

larger water changes.. around

larger water changes.. around 50% every 2-3 days is going to solve the problem for the time. But this way you are just buying time for your fish... as water changes also exhaust fishes. CHange to a bigger tank as much as possible.. or reduce the number of fishes... dont clean your filters everytime... clean half of your filters every 2 weeks with water taken out of the tank. then the other half the next week... all the best

red parrots aren't eating

Thank you. I just did a water change. They are still not eating but are looking better...staying close to the heater....I was told to raise temperature to 85 in order to kill possible ich...and make them eat....

Don't know what else to do ...

PH is around 6.00 They lived with it for all of their lives...I don't kno why now it would be a problem.

Thank you for your advice!!!

femacle1 is right abt the

femacle1 is right abt the rock.... get it asap... i keep my fishes at around PH 8

what are you feeding your fishes?

by the way if the ph is less

by the way if the ph is less then 8.5 you should be fine for ph. if higher then that try adding a piece of driftwood. ph is not why they are dieing though it is space and the tank being too dirty.

you are way way over stocked.

you are way way over stocked. 1 parrot to 30 gals and you have 5. thats why they are dying. you need to do a large water change 50%. right away and then another in 2 or 3 days. make sure you treat the new water. get all the old food and fungus out and stop feeding for 2 or 3 days. after that just feed what they eat right away. you need a bigger tank at least 55gals. 75 would be better. if you cant do this i would give them to someone with a bigger tank. sorry but they will keep dying if you dont fix this.

Sounds like you need to lower

Sounds like you need to lower that PH asap. Not sure if products they sell work or are safe. Hope someone can come along soon and help out.
