About to get my first fish tank and I want parrotfish...but I have some questions

My boyfriend has multiple fish tanks...some of which I "fish sat" all summer...and so I wanted one too.  He recently got me a 37 gallon tank.  I've always thought parrotfish are cute and I've read a bit about them as well and I'm almost positive these are the fish that I want for my tank.  I was wondering if a 37 gal would be big enough for two parrotfish.  Also, do they get along with kissing gouramis?  Would I have enough room for 2 parrotfish and a kissing gourami?  Or perhaps some ram cichlids?  Also, I wanted to get a pleco..but I read as long as I get a smaller "breed" (not sure if that's the proper term) of one they should get along...as long as the pleco doesn't get bigger than the parrotfish and pick on them or something.  Please let me know what you all think!  I'm fairly new to fish tanks, but I don't want to bombard my boyfriend with all the questions I have...but which fish would get along best with the parrotfish...and how many would be suitable in a 37 gal?

A 37 is fine for 1 parrot but

A 37 is fine for 1 parrot but unless you want a bigger tank then only get one. Kissing gouramies get to big for that tank. Dwarf plecos are still to big for that tank, you could get a chinese or golden algae eater? You could get 1 ram and 1 parrot or you could get 1 parrot and 5-6 tetras (bleeding hearts not neons).

Here a bunch of good info you need to read before you start because there is a lot to learn if you don't want to end up with dead fish after a week. http://parrotcichlid.com/node/14771
