Lucky

My first fish was a red tailed shark and he was lovely and lived to a grand old age of 17.  I then bought two parrot fish.

My shark and the smallest parrot fish died after my air filter pump stopped working one weekend whilst away but the biggest parrot fish survived which was touch n go for a while and he has now had a name change to Lucky.

I'm not sure if he is actually a he but one thing I do know for sure he's very big and he's very aggressive.  I dropped the window magnet in the bottom of the tanks a few feeks ago and when I put my hand in to get it he attacked me which my partner thought was very funny until a few weeks later he did the same thing and also got attacked.

Are parrot fish normally so aggressive?

Is there anything I can do to calm him down?

Is there any kind of special food I should be feeding him?

Can I put any other fish with him?

I have a large old male BP in a 55g. tank by him self and he is very aggressive and bites me when I clean the tank but not when I feed him. Once, he got my entire ring finger up to the first knuckle in his mouth and there were about 10 tiny teeth marks running down the length of my finger. He wasn't alway that aggressive when he had a mate and tankmates. He became more agressive after he got the tank to himself.

After I got gave away the flowerhorn, the little 2 inch green terror took over the 55 gallon. He got a little pissed when I added new fish so a moved him for a few days and then back and now hes fine.

My oscar bit my finger like that too but it was more startling than painful.

Oscars, now THEY look scary!

Oscars, now THEY look scary! They're all mouth!

I think when fish are all alone, they just assume that the whole tank is their territory now. I don't even try adding fish to the tank anymore. The last time I introduced a tankmate, it came with disease and I almost lost my BP. Stupid of me not to quarantine.

That bite actually hurt and it drew blood but I'm used to being bitten since he does it all the time, I expect it. My husband is terrified, he won't put his hands in the tank. He's even afraid of feeding him, for fear of him jumping out at his hands, which he does.

How big is your tank and your parrot? I found they can get along with a wide array of fish but in my experience 2 males will fight unless they are in a big tank. Its possible he is a she and she is protecting eggs like in this video

The only time mine attack me is when they are about to lay eggs and I get to close to their area. Most cichlids foods are fine for them, but make sure you give them thawed peas with no shells once a week.
