The Planted Tank

Parrot & a planted tank. Do the 2 go together ? I have a juvenile. He may pull up one here&there, but, for the most part he leaves them alone. I just hope he'll give them time to get well rooted.

How do you feel about the combination ?

plants

I have 6 in a planted tank but plants need to be chosen with care. Hardly plants like java fern attached to wood, swords and crypts that have a good root system. Don't even bother with stem plants and leave your parrots room to dig and root around.

Wood with java fern attached and floating plants make a nice tank too. It doesn't need to be complicated.

Re: The Planted Tank

all my tanks are planted. i have 7 at home. i have had as many as 6 parrots at a time in my tanks and they have never messed with my plants. maybe im just lucky. and yes i do mean live plants.

Maybe I've Found a Solution ?

Maybe I have found a solution to my plant problem ? I did as one person said. Plant them deeply. I also put the roots of some of them under rocks & trees. I did one more thing. I gave into the parrot. He won. ( LOL ) He did not like plants on his side of the tank. I cleared them out. His part is quite rustic with rocks & driftwood. The other side is thickly planted. Maybe, once their root system gets well developed, they will slowly move into his territory. Do you suppose ?

Still Planting ( LOL )

My parrot is not uprooting all my plants, but, very often, when I check the tank, one is uprooted. I hope to fool him. ( LOL ) I have 2 rocks & 2 pieces of driftwood in the tank. As he uproots, I replant with the roots under the wood or rock. A battle between parrot & man ! ( LOL )We'll see who wins.

Great News !
