Re: Heater problem
Well I took the heater in the 55 gallon and switched it with the one in the 20 gallon which is the one that came with the 55 gallon. So my 55 is back at 80F and the 20 is at about 81F. So it all worked out.
Re: Re: Heater problem
i found out my pictus was alot more active when i turned my heat down to 78-79. it was 82, i guess he just doesnt like it that warm. really glad the heaters r working though :)
Re: Re: Re: Heater problem
Thats something to think about. I went into petsmart today and decided I was gonna get a 75 gallon instead of another 55. They are only $230 with the hoods, so I can get one in about 2 months. So i'm gonna give aways oscar and put 2 parrots and my oscar in the 75. I also bought a flowerhorn :(
Re: Re: Re: Re: Heater problem
glad ur getting a bigger tank, but stop buying fish! :) ur getting rid of ur oscar, but getting another fish that gets huge and is aggressive.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Heater problem
Yep thats pretty much it. And I knew that going into it, I plan on buying a 29 or a 55 for the flowerhorn, my mom said she would get me one for graduation. He doesn't seem aggressive now but I know that doesn't me he won't be in the future. If he does i have a plan to move him around. As for the 75 I plan on putting my last oscar, Marley and my other parrot, Ziggy and maybe Mr B.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Heater problem
I talked it over and they are gonna help me get a 75 gallon this Sunday, I'm gonna be paying it off for the next 3-4 months :(.
Re: Heater problem
Heaters are tricky as you really need to get a good one in the first place. The ones that are usually around are not real good. (depending on where you live) Walmart's are hit and miss, more miss.. I don't trust the ones they carry.
Another thing, I assume you are talking about your 55 gal tank. It is always better to go bigger in the heaters ability. Your tank is on the top end of the ability and it will take it longer to do anything. It also works a lot harder than if it were in a 30 gal tank. They wear out faster in a bigger tank.
I would put two heaters in your 55 gal tank. One on each end. The water stays more stable temp and if one goes out, your not looking at a catastrophe, if it were cold.
I have gotten some really nice heaters from DrsfosterandSmith. (you would think I work for them! I don't) The two I got were relatively inexpensive, yet very good. They have a dial with actual temp to keep the aquarium. You don't have to guess. I think they can be submerged. I like them up where the tops are near the surface in case they need adjusted. Not often, but it happens.
It is possible the heater is defective, or it wasn't the quality it should have been. And we can't do much about that. Or it may take a very long time to raise the temp, as it is pretty small for your tank.
take care
Re: Heater problem
i dont know. it could very well be broken. when i moved i was very careful w/ my tank but when i got it back the damn heater wouldnt heat anymore.
