PLEASE HELP

About a month ago I got a Blood Parrot Cichlid  as a tankmate for my 2 afrian clawed frogs. Up until yesterday he seemed fine, he ate(a lot) I feed sinking shrimp pellets which my frogs and my cichlid love. Bubbles(my BPC) semed to be fine, but yesterday I noticed he had a black spot on him, it wasn't very big, and hardly noticeable, but I noticed it. Today it seemed to be more prominant, and perhaps a bit darker. I also noticed that he has a bit of black on his back fin, or tail(again hardly noticeable but still there). Is this some sort of disease? He seemed to eat as normal and carry on as normal, I'm just worried. Also I've seen him at night resting/sleeping and he does it vertically, like his nose pointing down, and tail pointing up, is this normal? He only seems to do it at night when its dark.

Back to the black spots...If this is a disease what is the treatment? Could my frogs get it?

Thank you so much

Thanx

Just wanted to thank everyone and am happy to state that my BP Bubbles is now free of all black spots and is back to his normal and beautiful orange.

Re: Thanx

good to hear! my little one just has the start of black spots coming on, so i started water changes today. im sure all will be well in a day or 2 :)

PLEASE HELP

Theres nothing to worry about. I dont think is stress or bad water conditions. Parrot is cross breed fish. Some black on the body or fin is normal. It will come and go all the time.

Re: PLEASE HELP

My littlest one who is only about an inch just got over it. I think they were starving him at Walmart. He seemed so shrunken in but he looks like a parrot now.

Re: Re: PLEASE HELP

im glad u took him :)

Re: PLEASE HELP

im sorry, but thats not true. the only time my bps (or anyone else on the site) got black spots it was either because of stress or less than optimal water conditions. i would say to do some water changes. even if u dont believe it, it cant hurt.

Re: PLEASE HELP

I would highly doubt it is the frogs as I have 3 african clawed frogs with my BPs and if anything the BPs enjoy them as tankmates
I would look to your water conditions - - you may not have enough filtration to deal with two exceptionally messy species!

Re: Re: PLEASE HELP

yes, please check the water and do water changes. let us know if things change. u should also be doing water changes often with these guys just to keep things right.

Re: Re: PLEASE HELP

Yeah, same with Bubbles. He likes the frogs. If anything he follows them around!

Re: Re: Re: PLEASE HELP

Well my parrot, Piglet, has had the spots recently and so I have been doing big changes about 10-20 gallon every day in my 55 gallon and the spots are going away. So do some big changes over the next week and you should see some improvement.

Re: PLEASE HELP

Thank you...How would the frogs be causing him stress?

Re: Re: PLEASE HELP

what size tank r they in? they need alot of space to call there own and a good hiding spot. also, r the frogs messing with him in any way? if the tank is big enough and no one is messing with him then the #1 reason for black spots is water conditions. check everything, ammonia, nitrates, nitrite etc. and chrisplosion is right, do some small water changes 4 the next 2-3 days, maybe more and see if it doesnt get better. good luck!

Re: Re: Re: PLEASE HELP

The tank is 30 gallons.

Re: Re: PLEASE HELP

I would do small water changes a over the next couple days. Mine got that when I moved them to new tanks, and when the ammonia got a little high. Also it might happen if it wants to breed.

Re: PLEASE HELP

Sounds like stress. Mine is going through the exact same thing right now. Little black speck on his nose....now is covered. Stress could be from water conditions to the stress the frogs may be causing him.
