gloves
I am going to have to get some gloves. Both of my fish try to ram me and lip me to death. haha. They are so much stronger than I thought. My boyfriend picks on me saying "whats wrong with you?, Its not like they have teeth." haha.
Re: my bps layed eggs again! im scared to get them out :)
I am just curious how blood parrots are so common if all the males are sterile? how do the procreate? This doesn't make sense to me. I'm wondering if its just a rumor being spread by anti parrot people to make people not want to breed them. If someone could clear this up for me it would be great.
I'm also curious of the different types of cichlids that bps can breed with. Ive heard of convicts, severums, flowerhorns, green terrors. Id just like to know if anyone has actually successfully bred any other types of cichlids with bps or these types.
Thank you.
I will post pics of my parrots when i get a chance. 3 in a 75 for now.
Re: Re: my bps layed eggs again! im scared to get them out :)
we only get them because they inject hormones into the males to make them fertile to breed. but that wares off quickly. the females though can have babies w/ almost any other cichlid. any hybrid in the world, the males r sterile. its natures way of making sure we dont get out of hand w/ new species :)

I've seen Firemouth Parrots, Red Devil Parrots, and Flowerhorn Parrots. I might have a Convict Parrot.
eggs
I feel sorry for them too, I keep thinking what great parents they would have made
Re: my bps layed eggs again! im scared to get them out :)
If they're inside the decor could you pick them up when they're inside? Maybe you could use Aquarium tongs? You could use them rather than stick your hand into the tank if they're inside, or can you suck them up with your syphon?
Here's a link to some on Doctor Fosters website.

thats a good idea! they always hate me sooo much afterward. it will protect my arm, and they wont associate it with me! thank u, ill do that next time!
eggs
how long do you leave the eggs before removing them? I leave mine untill they begin to look yucky, and thats the same time that my parrots get fed up with guarding them and eat them, I,v only had to remove eggs once and even then i think they would have gone by the next day
RE: eggs
I have been leaving the eggs in this time, thinking maybe she will loose interest.
I found out she must have super nurturing instincts. She comes out and eats. When I go by she comes out and wants food. Between bites she goes back in and fans her eggs. She hasn't missed a meal. In the past she would not eat. She is more trusting of us now, since the big red glove. But it is almost like she is the BP mother of the year.
I am going to have to take the eggs out and she is not going to be happy. Or should I say the big red glove is going to have to take the eggs out. :) She seems to settle quicker now, after egg removal. Some things are better.
I do see a difference in her each time she lays eggs. It is possible, one day she will not be as defensive. The first time she she laid eggs she was wild! I think she is getting it figured out as she lays eggs. I would think she would get sick of it.
I feel sorry for them..
Re: RE: eggs
last time i left them in there till they turned white, but she wont eat them yet so i have to remove them. i just removed them this time and the poor thing still wont come out of the teapot :( it will probably take her a day or so to realize there gone and come back out. poor girl
RE: my bps layed eggs again! im scared to get them out :)
This is one thing we are getting good at, unfortunately. :)
First method was to use a big soft net and hold the female to the side, while my husband removes the eggs.
Don't know what to tell you for now, since you have two BPs. Can you hook the cup with something and get it out? Good luck.
We have a glove that goes above your elbow, almost under your arm. Now my BP doesn't associate us with stealing her eggs. She's Much better. She is not as mean as she used to be when she had eggs.
She hates the big red glove, not me! :)
