Re: help please
I disagree that it isn't normal for parrots to lay at odd angles...mine do all the time, and they are very healthy and happy with perfect water levels. I've always seen parrots take up odd angles when they are at rest or hiding out and see it as a pretty normal behaviour for this fish.
HOWEVER...it can also be a sign, as the last poster said, of a sick or stressed fish. Making sure you test your water and maintain it properly is a big thing and one of the main causes of illness and stress.
Also, what size is your tank? These fish get very very large...6 is a lot. I have 6 in a 55 and they are moving into a 120 gallon tank that can handle their growing size. If they are juveniles, the will be alright in a 55 for awhile, but not for long. Anything smaller for that number of juvenile parrots is not acceptable in my opinion.
Good luck!

Re: help please
I'm sure you're not aware of the cruel treatment of dyed fish. If you were, I know you wouln't have purchased them. It's really unfortunate pet stores are allowed to sell the dyed fish.
80% of dyed fish die in the process. That means for every 20 dyed fish you see in the pet store, 80 have died in the process. It's inhumane, torturous, and severly compromises the fish immunity, health and life span. The fish are put in acid to remove the outer layer/slime coat. Then dropped into dye. The dye will not last more than a few months.
That being said. No. It is not normal for your fish to lay on the bottom. How long has your tank been up and running? Did you cycle your tank? Do you have a test kit? If you do, what are your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings? What size is your tank? Do you have good aeration in the tank? Did you use a water conditioner?
If your tank has been up for a few days, do a 30% water change and see if that helps. If it's your water parameters, you'll notice a difference in the fish behavior rather quickly.
If your water checks out, then we'll move along to possibly disease. However, if you just got home with them, it could just be stress. Try turning the light off. Do they have adequate hiding places?
Your fish are at a disadvantage already since they are dyed. That means you are going to have to keep your water parameters perfect to keep them from getting sick.
I know you love your fish and want them to have a long healthy life. It's obvious you care very much for them. I'm sure they're going to be just fine:-)
