I have a 55 gallon with 7 juvenile parrotfish in it. I started with only 2, but well intentioned friends purchased me 3 for my birthday and I ended up rescuing 2 from a lady who had them in a 10 gallon. I am getting a new tank for them this week....my budget allows for a 150 gallon extra tall or a 120 gallon long.
What will the parrots like more as they grow...the longer (60 long") smaller 120 gallon tank, or the extra tall 150 gallon (48" long by 24" wide by 31" tall)?
Will the new tank be big enough for 7 as they grow? I will split them between the 55 and the 120/150 if not, but they all really like each other and seem to shoal together oddly enough.
Any advice is appreciated. There will be plenty of filtration in the large tank with an undergravel filter and a 265g canister.

I was in Petsmart yesterday and actually got to see how big a 150 gal is. It Huge, but its more thick than it is long. I personally would go with the longer tank.

Yeah I've decided to go with the long tank....it's easier to clean and I vac rocks often, and I think the parrots will enjoy the length a lot more.

I have a lot of rock caves and they all really like those, so hiding spots are not a problem. They are all very social too...they come directly to me when they see me and overcame their shyness really quickly, which was nice. I just adore them.

i know, mine do the same thing :) i love them! and they will love the bigger tank! like i said ul do fine with either, i was just thinking the longer one because ull have more space to spread out hiding spots, but totally up to u :) post pics if u can when u get the new tank!

first of all im sooooo glad ur getting a bigger tank for all those guys,they will definitly need it! :) in my experience i think mine like the long tank i have, just cause theres more ground room 4 hiding spots, and ul need alot. that would be my choice i think. but the more gallons the better. i think either way they will be so much happier! and its really nice to here that u still have the 55 gal so if anything happens (fighting ect.) u have another tank. the rule is 4 1 parrot they need 30 gallons, and 10 more 4 every additional 1. so either way ul be ok. just get creative with hiding spots 4 all those guys ;) and congrats on the new additions, and ur new tank ( whichever one u choose)! i think u all will b very happy.
