Re: Peas?
I just started giving mine peas 2 days ago and they love them. Jack Dempseys too. They float for me so I pop out the innards into the tanks and they swoop in to take them. The Dempsey would swim around the tank with a pea sticking out of his mouth because its too big for him but he got it down sooner or later.
peas
mine spit the shells back out, thats the reason i shell them first, and I 1/4 mine first for them, spoilt parrots!!!!!!!

In the wild, fish get fibre in their diet by eating plants, seeds and algae, fibre keeps their digestion working properly(just like it does for you and me), in fish, an awful lot of problems are caused by constipation, they can become egg bound etc, but the most common problem is swim bladder, this in itself is not just one illness, but a symptom of lots of different ones, such as inflammation,or internal parasites,or constipation, resulting in the swim bladder(which keeps the fish upright and swimming normally)not working as it should, the fish has trouble swimming, eating and dealing with tank mates, most quality cichlid food ha fibre in it, but a weekly feed of a few frozen, thawed, shelled peas ,nipped into bit sized bits,is a good addition to their normal diet, and can be used as a first aid measure in fish that have problems by just feeding them for a few days, so they help digestion, prevent illness, rectify some health problems and are cheap, not bad eh!!
