My fresh water parrot fish use to be very outgoing. She ( ? ) use to swim all over the tank&eat like a pig. I think she is just a juvinile as she does not yet have her full colors.
Now she stays close to the surface. She is not gulping for air or floating on her side.
I do know I was overfeeding her for awhile. Maybe that is the problem. But I haven't done that for days. I feed her twice a day as much as she can eat in 5 minutes. Lately that has been about 3 sticks.
Or maybe she is pregnant, if that is possible with a fish this young.
I can only describe her in laymens terms. Her fins are working normally, but there is a black ( that looks like a fin ) extendening from her bottom. Her abdomen is very swollen.
What are the possibilities ? What can I do ?
If she is indeed pregnant, what will I do ? Will she eat her young ? The only other fish in the tank are 3 zebras, a gourmais&a pleco.
I could really use your help.
Thanks

Re: What is Wrong with My Parrot ?
She ate maybe a couple of peas. Perhaps that is enough for now. I will do as you say & keep her on the peas for a couple of days & then, if it doesn't work, I'll put her on a 2 day fast.
I bought dried bloodworms, tubex worms & frozen shrimp to supplement her diet. Are these ok, once I get her back to rights ?
Re: Re: What is Wrong with My Parrot ?
she will love those! i feed mine flakes and pellets in the morning then maybe shrimp at night, with b worms as a sometimes treat. but like u said just stick to shelled peas 4 the next couple days till shes better, then u can have some fun with feeding. just not to much :) hope it all works out
Re: What is Wrong with My Parrot ?
just make sure u take the shells off the peas :)

I've had no comment on my parrot fish/Oscar question. What do you think ?
parrot and oscars
well, I would never under any circumstance keep the two together, I dont think its fair on the parrot, like living with the school bully with no place to go
Water Change
The water tests fine. I just did a water change & he is moving about the tank more than he did. I am still going to try the peas though.
Re: What is Wrong with My Parrot ?
Sounds like you still may be over feeding her or she's not getting enough fiber in her diet and it has caused a blockage which can turn into a swim bladder problem very quickly.
Stop feeding her the food you have been feeding her. Only feed her thawed, shelled, frozen peas.
The peas will add fiber and hopefully remove the blockage. Feed her a couple peas twice a day. Cut them up so they are small enough for her to eat easily. If she's not better in three days, fast her for a couple days.
Check your ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates as well. Over feeding causes many problems. Ammonia spikes is one of them.
Could the black coming from under her be waste?
What do her scales look like? Are they laying flat like they normally do?
Thanks For Your Help
I will try the frozen peas & test for ammonia, nitrates & PH. I can't see that there would be an ammonia or nitrate poblem. I do a weekly water change, but I'll do it anyway.
I don't know what the black is. It could be waste because I didn't see it today.
When I fed her today, she swam out as if there was nothing wrong. She looked just like a parrot should, but then she retreated again. She ate 3 sticks. I gave her no more.
