Re: aggressive parrot
I guess it makes sense. The tank is their home and anything coming into it is a possible threat. They are just protecting what is theirs.
I have a couple of males that will fight every once in a while. They will both flare their gills. That must be an agressive trait.
I have a friend who cleans ppl's aquariums for a livng as well as works in a independant fish store. I have learned just about everything I know from him and the owner. They both say that Bp's are "mean" fish. My friend is always getting attacked whenever he has to clean a BP tank. He's about 6'3" and 300 lbs and he's afraid of them. lol!!
Shaz, I wonder if your fish will start to get more aggressive once they are more comfortable in their new home. You'll have to let us know.
aggression
maybe, I,v had it running since Xmas, the difference in tank size has improved squabbling greatly, and they dance about, they just really hate that pick up stick, mind you, my little fish, called"Fluffy" (a super delta betta )can teach them a lesson in flaring, he flares at the kettle when it boils, talk about aggression, blood parrots are a hybrid of two of the meanest cichlids around and share their aggressive natures
Re: aggressive parrot
if you get very close to the tank, or if you put your finger near it he will go for it and you can hear the him hitting the tank! he does open up the gill area aswel.
aggression
mine did a odd thing, when they were in a 30 gall tank, they would attack my hand whever I cleaned the tank, when I moved them into a 95gall tank, they hide when I clean it and only go after (and I mean GO AFTER) the pick up stick i use for replacing dug up plants, do you think they felt more threatened in the smaller tank, my older one has got more aggressive as he has got older but they are still alright together
Re: aggressive parrot
BP's are very territorial. He has established his territory and it looks like it's the entire tank. lol!!! He's just protecting his tank.
The older they get the more dominant they become as well. I'm guessing yours is 6 years old or older.
I'm curious. What does he do when you get close to the tank that lets you know he's being aggressive?
