Melafix

I would also recommend Melafix to combat the problems. It is derived from Melaleuca and is a natural remedy.Remove any activated carbon if you can and add the exact amount each day. Also change around 30% of you water once treatment has finished.Best of luck!!

Re: Fish disease?

I have found that the Melafix and Primafix products have been able to treat pretty much everything any of my fish have gotten. They sell both products in the Walmarts here in Canada but I'm sure your local pet store would stock them. I have found that I have to do almost daily water changes of about 10% and rinse out my filters daily to keep the water clear in my tank and in turn, my fish healthy. It's a lot of work but they're worth it. :)

Deb,Are you watching your

Deb,
Are you watching your water parameters closely. Almost all aquarium problemes are either from diet/over feeding or water conditions. You have always got to keep your ammonia and nitrites at zero and your nitrates around 20 or below. Are you doing your weekly, or more often if needed, water changes?

The black spots are from stress. That can be from a bully in the tank, over crowding, diet, or poor water conditions. The fungus is usually from poor water conditions.

If the water is not optimal, it causes the fish immune system to be compromised and disease can flurish in your tank.

I also agree with Shaz that the white stuff is probably fungus. I haven't treated my fish for fungus. So, I'm not one to give advice on that. I'm sure someone else here or your local fish store can give advice on how to treat it.

If you can, get your water perfect with water changes today and then treat for the fungus. The meds will be much more affective when the water parameters are good.

Best of luck:-)

fish desease

I would treat the white stuff as mouth fungus, it could be any variation of it, the other problem could be black spot, both conditions would be improved by improving your water quality so i would do partical water changes every other day, take the carbon out of the filter if using meds
