how often should water changes be done on a 55gal tank with 2 parrot fish and 4 more other good size fish.

It depends on several things. But, the bottom line is how much ammonia is being generated. I would say weekly 30% changes as well as gravel vacuum should be done. If you're able to keep your ammonia and nitrites at zero by doing the weekly changes, you'll be fine. Your nitrates should be kept at 20 or below.
