MOVED HOUSE

I HAVE JUST CHANGED MY TANK FOR MY TWO PARROTS BUT SINCE I HAVE CHANGED IT THEY HAVE NOT COME OUT. ALSO COULD SOMEONE TELL ME THE BEST TEMPERATURE FOR THEM. I HAVE ONLY HAD THEM FOUR WEEKS AND I DONT KNOW THAT MUCH ABOUT THEM. I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT CONVICTS AND OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE VERY DIFFERENT!!!!

new fish

this is normal when the environment has been changed, I keep my temp around 78-80, over this and it can spark spawning mode which in turn can lead to increased aggression, the important thing is to avoid swings in temp, the key to getting them out is usually food, sit by the tank quietly before and after feeding, but it cant be rushed, it takes as long as it takes, one of mine took months, the addition of a shoal of small suitable dither fish will help,(cory cats or giant danios or blue congos are great) that makes them feel secure. have they got hiding places, don't take any away, that will make it worse

BPs are funny

when I added my second BP, (I have two) the first BP went into his / her cave and laid on it's side for days. The only thing we could see was it's eye looking up at us through the hole at the top of the cave.
Another time, when there was some sort of "disturbance" involving the second BP the first on got black smudges on it.
In each situation, time healed. They are both still with me, (it's been 7 - 8 years) sharing a 55 gallon tank - happy and well.

Re: MOVED HOUSE

Actually other than being shy they are no different than convicts. BP's are very hardy fish it would take a great deal of abuse or neglect to kill one. Their size is a big thing to consider because they do get large, but they don't grow as fast as some other cichlids. My BP's have always been shy, but I always introduce dither fish and it speeds up the process of them becoming comfortable in their new environment. JMO
