i move and handle mine all the time by hand,but.when taking out of tank always a good idea to coat your hand with stress coat or melafin to ensure their slime coat stays healthy

I will probably try to do that. My biggest parrot, 'Tang', comes up all the time to eat his favorite cichlid sticks out of my hand, but the smaller one, 'Nemo', is still a little skittish.

using a net to guide them into a bag is kinder to them (just takes a lot of patience, fast swimers when they want to be)
...
a bug net might work if you can find one?

Try bagging them rather than using a net, or look at pond or fishing nets
