Re: Egg Bound
She has only layed eggs one time in all the time I've had her. Which was shortly after putting her in this 75 gallon tank.
And they were gone a few days later, figure the pleco got them, he's pretty big, and can be pretty pushy when he's determined to get at something. Actually the pelco came with the also but he looks different then the 3 others I have.. He has really big fins, and instead of just being dark brownish black like my others are he's got a leopard markings all over him. even his fins are more like angel fish fins the ones that get real long. He's close to 15". Anyone ever seen one like that before?
I think those spots on the glass are either snails or something on the lens of my new camera. It was the first time I used that camera.
But I am leaning towards snails cuz I took some other photos and there wern't any spots like that on those photos. All the snails are in hiding now since I turned the heat up to 84 so I don't know if that was all baby snails or what.
Re: I need help and.....
hi, does anyone think she might be egg bound. You know like a bird gets. do fish even get egg bound? Just a thought.

the questions on this site are usually answered by its members, parrotcichlidgirl usually only has time to look in now and again( being the busy bee that she is) and sorts out technical problems, and posts occasionally, if folk are away or working or otherwise engaged it can take a while to answer,at weekends and holidays many are away, so now to move on, is anything helping your fish, have you looked at the post regarding Epsom salt baths? keep up the water changes, that can only help
BP's Today June / 11
I have done 3 water changes, 1 was 1/4, the 2nd was 1/2 the tank, and again last night 1/4.
I added salt, and Rid Ich. I have given them 3 treatments .
The Bloated BP is still swimming upside down, but at least now she is becoming more active and swimming around alittle bit but you can see she's really struggling. But not nearly as bad as before I put the rid ich in.
I need help with trying to get her unbloated if possible. I feel so bad, she was this way when I took her in bloated like this but she swam around with her pal and seemed fine, only once in a while would you see her upside down. except when she selpt as stated in my first post. She always sleeps upside down.
She is trying to make an effort to eat, but not sure if she is getting any or not. I put a clip of sea weed next to her in hopes she would eat it, but who knows if shes eating it or the other 3 are.
I have photos of here from a month ago to yesterday but I do not know how to post them. Can you tell me how to?
As for the other BP with the black spots and the white cotton like spot on his nose (well her) shes all cleared up, black spots are gone, and the white spot is nearly all gone, was the size of a dime, now barley there. Still there but lots of improvement.
Charlie my Bumble bee has gotten his color back and so has my pelco.
I am still concerned about the bloated BP tho.
I am feeding the sea weed, and alge pellets broken up, and charlie the BB gets shrimp pellets, the other BP eats the shrimp pellets too, and they all get the Cichlid gold pellets, but i have been only tossing 2 a day in for charlie to eat.
I removed the smaller bumblebee. But they have been in the tank with charlie since they outgrew there tank they had alone and thats been close to a yr and a half. Besides they rule Charlie, he's just a big ole baby.
Can anyone think of any more suggestions on how to make my bloated parrot eat, to become unbloated, I just feel so bad for her. This tanks in the dining room and when i walk by it i feel so depressed cuz I have a feeling i am going to loose her, I am almost certain she's still not eating.
Do I dare add salt again. I used to use salt all the time, but just kinda stoped using it except in my shark tank. Not sure why I did, but I just did.
My first post is titled " problem with 2 blood parrots.. help"
If theres any way to look it up I believe its still on the same page.
Thanks.
Update on my BP june 19
Well, I have done numerous water changes, used rid ich, and another med. I have added salt, given peas, sea weed, and algae tablets, plus cichlid gold pellets.
She hasdn't eaten till yesterday when I cornered her and used a spear to feed her a pea with.. she ate the first one but spit out the 2nd one. But I got 2 shimp pellets into her, and one cichlid gold pellet. She also nibbled on a piece of sea wed stuck right in front of her, but not much of it.
I think she was stressed cuz I had a hold of her in one corner. But the good news is she ate a little bit.
But the bad news is shes not eating on her own, and I don't have a lot of time to hand feed her daily.
I work with a equine vet and more often then not I am on a call till late at night.
So, before I fed her I was thinking about it for a couple days, and I deceided well if she's egg bound maybe I can her get those eggs out. Not by hurting her or anything, but by giving her a little squeeze to see if it helped any..
My findings doing this is she's not egg bound.. There is nothing there. Just a big soggy blotted body. It's soft, u can push on it and it gives for a moment then u don't risk pushing more for fear of causing damage.
I am going to do a salt bath in a bit. I haven't done one yet, I live many miles out of town and get off of work so late I keep forgetting to pick it up.
But I got some tonight on my way home. I had 5 min to run in and grab some before walmart closed.
I am really concerned that she has to be miserable being upside down all the time like that.
I am starting to loose faith in her recovering. Do I give her more time?
The other fish are fine the tank is spotless, but yet she's not better.
Anyone have any idea's? any suggestions on what I can do, How long I should let her live like this? I don't know if I can put her out of her misery. I am horrible when on a barn call and we have to put a horse down. I get so upset, it always bothers me for days after wards.
I really need some advice on what to do at this point.

update on bp
only you can make that difficult decision, try the epson salt baths first, sounds like theres nothing to lose,Im sending you a message, look out for it
bloated parrot
I think you should try the epson salt baths if you already havent, parrots do get egg bound esp if there isent a male cichlid in the tank but I think that this problem has gone on too long for it to be that but epsom salt baths help both constipation and egg bound I would keep trying things as long as there is the slightest inprovment
r e bps
when you post its kept for quite a time under "recent posts" or if it was a comment to another post you need to find the original question under the same heading, to find all posts to do with a certain subject just type in a few key words into our search box then click on the posts to see the full reply, , type in "Epsom salt" into the search box then scroll down and find sunnysdads answer to a recent question regarding bloated parrot, which is how to give Epsom salt baths,I would try that now, peas are good for all fish as part of their normal diet, don't bother about her not eating just now, in fact, advice for bloated or constipated fish is to actually stop feeding for a few days,it may be that the bloating is something else, esp as she was like this before you got her, load photos onto photo bucket or whatever then follow the links,I add a very small amount of aquarium salt every few months unless the fish are ill, snails don't do well with salt, It can be almost impossible to say how snails get in, sometimes even in bags of live foods, how is she today? ps check your private messages, Iv sent you details of how to post using flickr
Photos begenning to yesterday.
I will try with photo bucket since I have an account there. I tryed peas and I can't get her to eat. Read another article on here where someone told another person to try crab meat, so i took a small shiver of crab meat and put it on a long fork thing I feed my sharks with.

She didn't want that either.
I am going to do a water change today. I can see quite a bit of differance since I got her a yr. and a half ago. But she's always had a big gut.
On the 29th she had already stated to get real bloated but to be honest with you I thought she was just getting fat, she's usually a real pig at feeding time. example if I toss in 6 cichlid gold pellets 2 per fish she's at the top gobbling as many up as she can before the other 2 even come out of there caves.
So gonna try the photos now. I have this question tho, she does seem to be swimming around more then the past week. But do you think she's in pain?
This is a couple days after I got her.
These next ones are from May 29th 09
These next ones are from June 10. 09
I feel your pain
It does sound like they are improving, I dont really use any salt or anything in my tanks unless absulutly needed. right now mine is being treated with coppersafe(works for ick plus some) becuz I had some how got a snail prob(1000s). keep doin the water changes. with the bloated bp you could try a shelled pee.

Peas?
One I would like to say thats werid cuz almost overnight I got snails to.. lots of them, when I realized I for to turn the heater back up after installing the 2 fans to cool down the lights, I seen all these snails up near the top of the glass.. I didn't even know I had a single snail in there let alone that many. The only possible thing I can think of is, Well I really don't know I was gonna say a plant but I don't have any live plants in this tank cuz the blodd parrots dig and up root them. One of my aqua clears 110's was used but it was clean when I got it and I recleaned it and put all new media in it. So how did I get the snails?
As for the peas, read one article on that, but can u explain further what to do, how to feed them it? Frozen, canned? will have to buy some as I only eat them if they are in with baby onions and not to often.
Thanks.
peas
take a frozen pea, thaw it, shell it, and cut it into small pieces to feed to your fish. This will help with digestion and the bloating.

stress
sounds like they might b stressed, how are they today? I had a few affricans with mine for a few mo. and all was fine. but that changed over night and they had so be removed. it took over a month for my bps(starburst, frank, pumpkin, cupid) to get back to them selves. you can put in some salt but I would stay away from chemicals if you can and keep doing small water changes, remember to readd proper amont of salt for the water you add.
Howe are the fish doing today. I will check back in at my dinner break if I can other wise when i get home tonight.

no response
hold on there, we are a friendly site but we do mostly all work and check in every few days to see who we can help, sometimes if people don't know the answer, they wait to see if someone more knowledgeable replies, you only posted on Sunday, give us a chance ,we are not professionals, only hobbyists who may have experience of your problem, I myself have had questions unanswered, there are others on the site awaiting answers, have you replied to them? I assume you are worried about your fish to be so sensitive like this, and thats understandable, but I think you over react , , re post if you wish, but please dont slag people off before they have a chance to help, that is unfair, by the way, i am writing this at 3am from work during my break
Responce
To answer your question No i have not answered anyone elses posts here, but... only because when I made my post I had just found this site a half hour previous to that while doing a search on BP dieases.
The pet stores here are no help and I have never in all the time I've had BP's ever had an issue with any of them.
I usally keep them in with Sharks, and they usally rule over the sharks but then my sharks are very docile and eat out my hand.
I tried to keep these 2 in my shark / bp tank thats bigger then the 75 they are in buy i have 2 blood parrots in there that are close to 10-12 inches each and they fought the whole time. SO I took the 2 smaller ones out .
So when I founf this site I was just thrilled to have found it and was expecting some kind of responce. but after 2 days and 8 hrs nothing and I could see other new responces on other posts, so I was upset.
I am sorry, but not so sorry I said anything cuz it did get me a responce. I maybe could have been nicer about it tho.
