Re: Using API STresszyme
i have used it before when i was trying to cycle my first tank. it is my belief that none of these "bacteria in a bottle" products work. the only one that did work was bio spira and it isn't being sold anymore. i used thes products for about 2 and a half months and my tank still hadn't cycled. it wasn't until i followed my later instructions that i got tanks to cycle VERY quickly.
if your water is cloudy i would either buy another filter and or add a filter bag full of carbon to your filters. zeolite crystals are another good filter media. they can absorb ammonia and they also help with water clarity.
the best way to get beneficial bacteria, in my opinion, is to get "dirty" filter media, gravel, and water from an established tank and put it into your tank. if you have a friend that is into fish, get him/her to deep vacuum their gravel and fill a 5 gallon bucket with the dirty water. then, get some of the gravel from the tank and put it in a media bag that will fit in your filter. you can also use the old filters if you guys have the same filters. transport all of this in the bucket of water. while your tank is cycling, do NOT deep vacuum your gravel or change your filter media.
i have alot of tanks, and when i get a new one, it takes about 5 to 7 days to fully cycle it with fish in there. i do the things already suggested, but also fill the new tank with old water from my currently running, established tanks. i hope this helps.
