water changes
I do monthly water changes, 50% at a time due to the heavy loads on my aquariums. I vacuum the gravel during every water change. I clean the canister filters out monthly and change out the carbon every couple months. I have well water so I don't have to add any chemicals after each water change. All my fish are healthy and have not experienced any problems for sometime. I wish I could get the nitrate level down lower, as it stands now, it's around 40ppm. I use the API Nitrate test kit.
Re: water changes
weekly water changes are best. if you did weekly WC your nitrate level would be lower. i have 6 tanks running and i do 50 to 60% WC weekly. if the work or time is too much, get the python WC system. i change about 140 gallons of water, gravel vac, and clean the glass in 2 hours. if i just change the water, it takes less time than that.

I do a 50% weekly or sometimes a 25% twice a week (depends on how my back is) with a light gravel vac and glass wipe, but I never miss, once a month I move decor, wipe airlines, rinse filter (if it needs it)and deep vac gravel, I have four parrots in a 60gall tank, thats only just adequte if you maintain the tank well
Re: Water Changes
I change mine weekly at about 20% but don't go by me - I'm new at this!
