Color changing Parrots

I got 3 parrot cichlids together. one obviously the dominant very bold in color and larger then the other two. Second largest is a pretty little thing but basicly the average middle child. My third and smallest is shifting from a dark orangey to an almost pale almond with a slight pink and back to orange. the other two have not learned this neat little trick and was concerned for the little one. it happened over a week and a half to two week period and I am totally clueless as to way.. Any ideas?

Thanks

Thnks for the tips.. when i went back to the dates of the color change i noticed it was the same time my filter jammed over night and started spinning backwards. Yay gross particals back in the tank.. so i had to do an unscheduled water and filter change. I think the little one might just be a little bit more sensitive. Behavior is normal and he is swimming fine. Will definately keep in mind his sensitivity in the future.

Re: Color changing Parrots

water conditions can make cichlids, especially parrots, color fade or change. so can spawning behavior, food quality, color enhancers, or mood.

My guess is that the little one is/was under stress of some sort, because his colour reverts back to orange, fish go pale when stressed, if he had been orange then went pale and stayed pale, that could mean he was dyed but I think its the first thing, has he found his "spot"yet, being harassed by the others? or he could be more sensitive to environmental changes than the older two, checked your water?
