Re: Where to find a good tank?
craigslist always has good deals. i got both my 55 and my 100 from there. my 100 is acrylic and came with a stand, two aquaclear 110, 4 powerheads, the python water changer, 3 heaters, and a magnum 350 canister for $300. i do not recommend buying the magnum because, athough it works great, it is a pain to service i have the one with the shut off valves and it is still harder than most canisters. it isn't even cheaper than the other brands. my 55 came with stand and everything + fish and it was $200. it came with at least $300 worth of fish and everything i needed to get it going. the seaclear 100 gallon is $700 new with nothing else
tank size and plec
I agree take back or give away the plec and look on craigslist or in any classifieds for a larger tank no smaller than a 55 gallon. If it will be a long time before you can get a tank of decent size you can always use a rubbermaid tub they are pretty cheap and come in some pretty large sizes.
Thanks
I will have to check that out. I know that I got ripped off when the pet store told me 10 gallons! :-)
tank size
If it was me I would go for tank size over newness ie Get the biggest tank you can afford and fit in, over a smaller but new one,( then you can take that ladys jellybeans)
Tank Size
Sounds to me like you are going to need at least a 55 but if you have common plecos even a 55 is too small for them once they reach their full size. They can get up to 18 inches or more. Minus the plecos I would say a 55 is good for 2 bp's. I got my 55 on craigslist. You should check to see if it is available in your area. If not then I recommend checking local classifieds in your area. Good luck!
