BPs won't come out and eat
My 3 new BPs have been hiding since I brought them home over 24 hours ago. They won't come out and eat, what should I do?
shy BPs
this is normal, they will not starve, food is the key, first, have they got lots of hiding places? sit by the tank whenever you can, they will peep out at you,try not to make sudden movements, do this before you feed them, feed a variety of food, do not over feed, they will be eating, just not when your looking, they will associate you with food and will come looking for you eventually, don't remove their hiding places, BPs are very shy and cautious, it often takes a few weeks for them to be comfortable to swim in open water, one of mine must hold the record for a non appearance for a parrot, about three months, are there any tank mates, this helps (make sure you get compatible fish, run it through this site if you can before getting any)expect it to take an average of two to four weeks for them to become confident, type "shy" and " Hiding"into this sites search box to see how common this is,
Exactly how to move your fish...
How to move your parrot cichlids
Re: Traveling to far will albert make it?
I have read about people flying their fish for several hour flights, so he should be ok for a couple of hours. You should pick-up a battery air pump before you leave.
Re: Traveling to far will albert make it?
I have now doubt that he would be fine traveling 3 hours. Just make him priority when you get to the new house and set his tank up first. If you are worried about his air supply on the trip, petsmart carries a battery operated air pump. Keep us posted and good luck!
moving fish
You will find very detailed instructions on moving parrots if you just type "moving your parrot cichlids" in the search box, and look for parrorcichlid instructions for doing just that!
cooler
use a large Styrofoam cooler from the grocery store.. there is also a detailed posting from someone who moved their fish across the country, i believe.. and they had portable bubble things set up and everything.. maybe shaz will have the link to it. If not I'll try looking for it.
I think he will be fine in a cooler if you keep him in the front seat.. I also live in AZ and have moved my oldest fish about 5 or 6 times (I'm in college and tend to move a lot)
